Periodontology

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation of the entire tooth support apparatus, caused by bacteria. A pernicious feature is that the inflammation is almost always completely painless. Untreated, periodontitis will lead to loss of tissue and jawbone substance – this loosens the teeth and in the worst case they may even fall out.

Periodontitis is the main cause of tooth loss in adults.

In addition, it increases the risk of heart and circulation disease and premature birth. Periodontitis also has a negative effect on diabetes.

Special professional competence

Are you affected by periodontitis? In our practice you are in the best possible hands. Dr. Peter Kolling, M. Sc. mult. Is especially qualified in this field. He has comprehensively qualified himself further with a Master of Science in periodontology.

Periodontitis treatment in Munich

In order to stop the inflammation permanently, we need to carefully remove the coatings causing it from the gum pockets. This is carried out by our specially qualified prevention assistants / dental hygienists. Treatment can be carried out conventionally or – if periodontitis is well advanced – surgically. After the periodontitis treatment itself, the primary and very important requirement is for thorough aftercare (in dentists’ terms: Periodontitis Supporting Therapy). This can prevent the inflammation from advancing further and contributes to the long-term maintenance of the teeth.

Micro-biological periodontitis test

In order to determine the exact type of periodontitis bacteria we can carry out a micro-biological test. We will check a saliva sample for certain bacteria that cause periodontitis. In this way, we can if necessary adjust a treatment with antibiotics optimally to the bacteria causing the infection.

Covering exposed tooth necks

Exposed tooth necks don’t just look unsightly, they are also often over-sensitive to heat or cold as well as more prone to tooth decay. With a gum transplant it is usually possible to cover exposed tooth necks. We transfer a small piece of tissue to the exposed areas. This allows the gum to return to a healthy and pleasant-looking condition.
